I deleted my ENTIRE Email List
and it was the best thing ever!
The word for my 2018 is INTENTION. I literally want to be intentional about every single thing in my personal and professional life. To kick things off in my professional life, I took a major risk that I didn’t necessarily see coming but knew was needed.
During the last few weeks of 2017, I sent some emails to various segmentations on my list with the topic: “New Year, New List”. It basically was about me deleting my ENTIRE list — and I wasn’t kidding.
Being authentic and transparent with my community (especially my list) is always important to me.
In this current season of my business (and my life), I had to really think about the major shift I was embarking upon, if I could still support people on my list, and if we could grow together going forward.
The answer was yes, I could help them BUT not with this list and the tone I set.
Here are the 3 main reasons why I deleted my entire list:
- Change: based on changes in my business model, I wanted to connect with a new audience and reintroduce my brand + business. Instead of wasting my content and time, it would serve me best to just start with a new list.
- Conversions: although I had segmentation down to a science, my conversions weren’t where I desired to be. From analytics, I learned that people on my list were meeting me in a different stage of their business despite the content I provided. Overall, it just wasn’t a good fit.
- Intention: As stated previously and throughout this article, “intention” is my focus for this year. I wanted to be intentional about the people on my list, the community I am building, and also about the clients that I serve. Those things weren’t represented on my previous list so scrapping it was a good thing.
As you can see, I deleted my entire list and it’s the most freeing thing that I’ve felt in a long time.
Going into year four of my business in 2018, I realize that I want to be intentional about every single thing that I do. This even comes down to the people that I serve and the community that I am building.
I knew this change wouldn’t be the move for everyone but it’s definitely the tone I am setting for my business going forward.
I’m starting my list from scratch but it’s truly the best feeling ever!
